Who builds ShieldGuard,
and with what.
For security software, "we don't know what it's actually doing" is the worst state to be in. We publish the developer, the technology we use, and how the detection engine works as concretely as we can.

About the Detection Engine
ShieldGuard's (antivirus) detection engine periodically syncs several public YARA rule collections (Elastic Protections Artifacts, ESET Malware-IOC, Google Cloud Threat Intelligence, Icewater, ReversingLabs, Yara-Rules/rules, and others) and combines them with our own signature database.
Simply ingesting public rule collections as-is can pull in "helper rules" that aren't meant for detection at all. For instance, we discovered and fixed a bug where a helper rule meant only to extract domain-like strings caused every file to be incorrectly flagged as "malicious." Read the full story in What Are YARA Rules? How Malware Detection Works — and Where It Fails.
Open Source Software We Use
| ShieldGuard | Rebuilt from the open-source defensive antivirus engine "PRX-SD" (MIT / Apache-2.0 dual license) as a bilingual, Windows-packaged product |
|---|---|
| ShieldGuard EDR | Redesigned from the open-source file monitoring tool "Kernel-Eye" (MIT / Apache-2.0 dual license), for Windows and focused on detection and alerting |
| ShieldGuard NET | Inspired by the open-source CVE auditing tool "router-cve-audit" (MIT license); redesigned and newly implemented for Windows and consumer use, with a safer, restricted scope |
Full license terms and acknowledgments for each product are also available in-app under "About."
